About the Age Calculator

An age calculator works out the exact time between a date of birth and a chosen date, usually today. Instead of a single number of years, it breaks the result into years, months and days. This is useful for forms that ask for age on a particular date, school and sports eligibility cut-offs, and planning milestones.

Months have different lengths, so the tool counts complete calendar months first and then the remaining days. Leap years add an extra day to February every four years (except century years not divisible by 400). People born on 29 February have a true birthday only in leap years; in other years the legal birthday is usually treated as 28 February or 1 March, depending on the country.

The tool also shows how long remains until your next birthday. Everything is calculated in your browser from the dates you enter, so no personal information is sent anywhere.

Worked example

Someone born on 14 March 1990 checking their age on 2 October 2026 is 36 years, 6 months and 18 days old, which is a little over 13,000 days.

Tips for best results

  • Use the "age at date" option to find how old someone was or will be on a specific day, such as an exam date or application deadline.
  • Double-check day and month order if you are used to a different date format: 03/04 means different days in different countries.
