Hash Generator
Generate cryptographic hashes of text using MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256 and SHA-512 algorithms.
About the Hash Generator
A hash function turns any input into a fixed-length fingerprint. The same input always gives the same hash, but even a tiny change gives a completely different result, and it is impractical to work backwards from the hash to the input. This tool supports SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512.
Hashes are widely used to verify file integrity: publish the SHA-256 of a download and users can confirm their copy was not corrupted or tampered with. They also appear in digital signatures, version control and caching. SHA-256 is a sensible default.
SHA-1 is considered broken for security purposes, so use it only for compatibility with older systems. Hashing is not encryption, and for storing user passwords a plain fast hash is not enough: use a purpose-built function such as bcrypt, scrypt or Argon2.
The SHA-256 hash of the text "abc" is ba7816bf8f01cfea414140de5dae2223b00361a396177a9cb410ff61f20015ad. Changing the input to "abd" produces a completely different 64 character result.
Tips for best results
- Trailing spaces and line breaks change the hash, so watch for them when comparing.
How to use the Hash Generator
Why use Toolseza for Hash Generator?
Use this tool as often as you need with no paywalls, premium tiers, or hidden daily calculation quotas.
All calculations and file manipulations run inside your web browser. Your inputs are never sent to a cloud server.
Results update in real-time as you type or adjust settings, with instant one-click copy and export capabilities.
Works natively on smartphones, tablets, laptops, and desktop computers with zero installation or account creation.
Editorial Standards & Verification: All formulas, algorithms, and conversion factors implemented on Toolseza adhere to openly documented international standards (ISO, NIST, BIPM, W3C). Results are verified against benchmark reference datasets before publication.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Hash Generator free to use?
Yes — Hash Generator is completely free, unlimited, and requires no sign-up.
Can I reverse a SHA-256 hash?
No — cryptographic hashes are one-way functions. It is computationally infeasible to recover the original input from a SHA-256 hash, which is why hashes are used for data verification and password storage.
Does the output follow the standard spec?
Yes — output follows the standard format, so it's compatible with other tools and libraries.
Does it work on mobile and tablet?
Yes — Hash Generator works on any modern browser, including mobile and tablet, no app required.
